Combustion Systems Engineer

Position Summary

 

We are currently seeking a Combustion Systems Engineer responsible for the mechanical design of incineration and energy waste systems, specifically for fixed hearth, stepped hearth and rotary kilns, encompassing abated and unabated technologies.

  • Managing and maintaining the build and documentation of designs, prototypes and design of experiments,  while reporting product information through analyzing and summarizing information and trends.
  • Developing industry leading fuel-efficient combustions systems utilizing the latest technologies, design concepts in line with a “best available technique” approach.
  • Supporting engineering and production disciplines in the expert validation and testing of all systems.
  • Carrying out investigations into a range of problems or issues and developing solutions individually, or as a member of a team in demonstration of a root-cause mentality.

DO YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH:

 

 

  • Waste profile analysis in considering CV range and desired through-put
  • Ability to produce heat and mass balance and peak flow calculations
  • Undertake detailed qualitative and quantitative risk assessments in support of detailed design specifications
  • Flue gas modeling and abatement system design
  • Leading a research and development effort in the exploration of best available technologies and new concepts within the emerging “Energy from Waste” markets. 
  • Evaluating and developing mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs; applying specific, relevant engineering principles.
  • Working knowledge of a detailed “Hazard and Operability” study process within a process safety environment.
Qualifications

 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of previous engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of solid modeling & CAD software (especially Solidworks  Plant 3D or NAVISWORKS software
  • Familiar with data capture for images, storage and archive or images and ability to share them via facility and company databases.
  • Routine travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required.
  • Basic degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold & heat, risk of electrical shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
