The Master – Welder directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for all welding activities such as weld inspection, weld training, and planning of all welding projects.  The Master Welder will achieve the desired results by performing the essential duties personally, through direct reports, and/or peers assigned with welding projects.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assigns work and directs welding department personnel on the shop floor.
• Assures inspection of in process and completed work prior to releasing for final QC inspections. 
• Conducts biannual performance reviews for all welding personnel.
• Runs the daily operations related to all welding tasks.
• Completes required welding tasks necessary to support Product Sales, Efficiency, Quality, Profitability, and on-time delivery goals. 
• Meets daily with pertinent personnel to discuss status of in-process welding tasks.
• Adjusts plans and resources as necessary to react to change in backlog, customer requirements, or deadlines.
• Plans, set-ups and operates all welding equipment and performs any welding process within the shop. 
• Inspects and/or sees the inspection of all incoming welding tasks to assure the material and order documentation meet required welding specifications. 
• Leads personnel compliance with all company safety regulations and procedures.
• Manages stock supply to maintain smooth welding department operations.
• Provides timelines of completion of welding/fabrication tasks to production planner. 
• Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of employee(s) to ensure success of his/her team by training, mentoring, and coaching welding staff to meet the highest standards of quality
• Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

•  Associate’s Degree or Equivalent from two-year college or technical school preferred in related field
• 8+ years  of welding and fabrication experience required
• 3+ years in a leadership role preferred (direct or indirect)
• Experience in training staff on the different welding processes and fabrication techniques
• High level certification such as CWS, CWI, CWE, CRWT preferred
• Thorough knowledge of Arc, metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG) and gas welding procedures, tools, and equipment used in structural repair of light and heavy equipment and a variety of different tanks to include knowledge of various types of steel such as cast components and aluminum.
• Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to the operation of various welding operations
• Basic degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
• Basic analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
• Basic verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
• Basic understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
• Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
• Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
• Possess a mechanical aptitude; ability to use a large variety of hand tools and basic knowledge of power tools, forklifts, welding equipment, and cutting torch.
• Ability to work overtime as necessary.

• Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk, hear and see.  
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Regularly exposed to hot and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold & heat, risk of electrical shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• The noise level in the work environment may be high.
