Project Engineer (Mechanical)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Engineer (Mechanical) is responsible for managing and coordinating the development of projects from end to end around the design, procurement, manufacturing, and testing of our mechanical components and systems.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Propose, design, and detail engineering solutions.
  • Attend site visits for verification/measurement to produce general arrangement/proposal drawings.
  • Interpret technical requirements of customer specifications and co-ordinate and manage all aspects of each project from development through to production.
  • Provides technical & documentation support.
  • Assist in procurement by providing technical specs for the in-house buyers and provide fabrication drawings to sub-contractors.
  • Support the Projects and Works departments to ensure all components fit together smoothly and efficiently ensuring compliance with industry regulation.
  • Carry out investigations into a range of problems or issues and develop solutions individually, or as a member of a team.
  • Advises management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.
  • Forecasts operating costs of department and directs preparation of budget requests.
  • Works with R&D/Marketing in the execution and manufacturing of new products.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations and develops recommendations accordingly.
  • Collaborate with the wider company to continually look for improvement opportunities.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

•    Mechanical Engineering Bachelors’ degree or Master’s degree with a minimum of ten (10) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

•    8+ years progressive engineering and technical project leadership experience with a progressive industrial, automation, or advanced technology company; or equivalent combination of education and experience
•    Deep familiarity and supplier experience in one or more of the following technology areas: a) materials and materials processing, b) advanced manufacturing technology (e.g., additive manufacturing), c) industrial controls and automation, d) robotics, e) machine tools/related capital equipment, f) graphic/printing, g) packaging, h) printing and marking systems, i) fluid control.
•    Formal training in engineering project management, lean techniques, quality improvement tolls, and specific industrial enabling technologies (e.g. PLCs) highly desired
•    Project Management Professional credential preferred
•    Working knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, mechatronic, hydraulic and electrical systems & components.
•    Proficient in lean techniques and quality analysis tools such as 5D, SPC, PFMEA, etc.
•    Occasional travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required.
•    High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications
•    Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills 
•    Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning)
•    Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts
•    Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients
•    Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
•    Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management
•    Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  •  
  • Proficient in AutoCAD as well as a 3D modelling packages, preferably SolidWorks and/or NAVISWORKS.
  • Word, Excel and Power point.

•    Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; and talk, hear and see.  
•    Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
