Senior Mechanical Technician

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Mechanical Technician oversees work of the Mechanical Technicians and is responsible for ensuring proper assembly, and inspection of standard and custom industrial equipment to meet the customer specification.  In conjunction with the Project Manager, the Senior Mechanical Technician sets daily work output expectations to meet customer delivery expectations.  

 

This position also assists in the commissioning of machines and systems and responds to customer’s service needs. Cross-disciplinary work is required with all trades, external companies, suppliers, and manufacturers. The Senior Mechanical Technician diagnoses causes of malfunctions or failures and advises/helps implement corrective actions for the equipment and the reduction of production downtime. 
 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspects incoming orders, reads blueprints, schematics, or similar documentation to ensure assembly standards meet required manufacturing standards. 
  • Meets daily with the Project Manager to discuss the status of in-process and/or newly received orders; adjusts daily work plan of Technicians as necessary to meet delivery requirements.  
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of how the equipment’s mechanical systems are built and operate.    Inspects, assembles, repairs, and tests industrial equipment to ensure maximum capacity, efficiency, and safety.  Responsible for loading software and interface packages onto standard and custom equipment.  
  • Adjusts and tunes equipment within extremely close tolerance and part specifications to provide excellent service and reliability according to established procedures and methods.
  • Suggests product improvements, procedural changes and/or new methods of control or testing.
  • Responds quickly to problems to appropriately manage equipment production downtime and continued operations.  
  • Creates and loads serial number records and estimates of deliverables/repairs into the computer using the SAP operating system.
  • Maintains logs, records, and reports concerning production, machine maintenance, and product inconsistencies.
  • Delegates work to Mechanical Assembly Operators and identifies where training is needed.  Uses various machines and hand tools to assist with training of Mechanical Technicians on required skills or to upgrade skills to meet manufacturing demands.  
  • Maintains knowledge of and follows all safety procedures and company policies.
  • Maintains accurate records of all work performed at the customer site. 
  • Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Completed training as a mechanical/mechatronic technician, industrial mechanic, or similar
  • Minimum 4+ years of professional experience
  • Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Experience with web/sheetfed materials and equipment is a plus
  • Willingness to travel locally, nationally, and/or internationally
  • Service-oriented – ability to work closely with the customer
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with clients and colleagues across the organization
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook, & internet applications
  • Ability to work overtime as necessary
