This role will lead sourcing strategy, supplier selection and supplier relationship management for the procurement of indirect material & services globally. The Sourcing & Category Manager will be accountable to understand business strategy and then develop a comprehensive, long term, supplier strategy which will deliver maximum value to the enterprise in critical G&A spend categories.


  • Develop, direct, and implement strategic sourcing strategies, best practices, and initiatives that support aggressive improvements in supplier consolidation, quality, total cost of ownership, enhanced service levels, improved coordination, delivery, pricing, lead-times, payment, risk compliance and other areas as identified. 


  • Evaluate external market for competitive sources of supply, conducting market research and using benchmarking data to qualify potential sources on the basis of quality, cost, delivery, risk & innovation considerations. 


  • Execute category sourcing strategies to include:  develop & qualify suppliers, development and execution of sourcing events (RFx, reverse auctions, etc.); document bid process through supplier communication; drive the selection of suppliers in collaboration with cross-functional teams; conduct supplier negotiations; execute contracts, and ongoing supplier management. 


  • Develop negotiation strategies, gain alignment from stakeholders, lead cross-functional, category-based negotiation teams, and implement appropriate supplier risk analysis.  


  • Use current spend information/data and business knowledge to identify sourcing projects for individual subcategories and develop an overall cost reduction plan. Create and defend category strategies and decisions with sound analytics. Collaborate with key analytical support functions; synthesize results. 


  • Aggressively manage category performance by adhering to internal Savings goals and reviewing financial models for commodity type items. Ensure spend portfolio for recurring, managed spend is balanced through coordinated sourcing waves and leveraged with other sourcing activities. 


  • Drive consolidation of spend and seek out synergies across Business Units where applicable, by forming and leading cross-functional strategic sourcing teams to develop and implement category/commodity strategies and to drive cost from individual spend sub-categories. Champion regular category review meetings with cross-functional teams to manage category performance, partner with internal & external stakeholders to drive supply base synergy. 


  • Lead and manage continuous improvement initiatives to drive simultaneous advancement of service levels, quality of goods & services, cost of supply, & favorable working capital terms. 


  • Serve as the category leader and market expert in the assigned spend category for the company, developing deep supplier relationships and expert understanding of the supply market. 


  • Lead and influence stakeholder groups with sound and articulate business case recommendations (i.e. build vs buy strategy) with quantifiable financial benefits.   


  • Manage and develop team of sourcing professionals with a focus on achieving department goals (which may include cost savings/avoidance, risk mitigation, supplier performance). 


  • Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of employee(s) to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished.  Mentor, coach, train and develop team. 


  • Additional duties as assigned. 




  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering or related field 


  • Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) preferred 


  • 10+ years progressive operational experience in procurement, sourcing or supply chain management (buying, vendor management, supplier evaluation, regulatory compliance, segmentation/taxonomy); or equivalent combination of education and experience 


  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role 


  • CPSM or CIPS credential or equivalent experience 


  • Deep experience in business analysis, market research, financial analysis, procurement/supply chain analysis, supplier performance management, analytics (multi-dimensional analysis, master data management, predictive analysis, visualization).  


  • Broad knowledge of the market forces shaping business context of the enterprise (e.g. supplier base, legal & regulatory environment, sources of competitive advantage) 


  • Strong financial acumen & ability to analyze complex data and present in a meaningful manner, making appropriate recommendations and driving actions (e.g., data validity, profit/loss variance, volume trends, ROI). Ability to develop baseline cost models to accurately represent current state and ability to build dynamic total cost of ownership models with multiple scenarios in order to evaluate and quantify value 


  • Superior problem-solving skills with demonstrated record of identifying root causes to issues and proactively problem solving complex organizational needs 


  • Excellent and disciplined project management and prioritization skills with ability to react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently. Proven ability to deliver complex multi-regional and/or global projects in a matrixed and global environment 


  • Ability to constructively challenge executive leadership; and ability to develop and evaluate strategic options, including risks and risk mitigation strategies. Ability to provide thought leadership, ability to influence and actively shape strategy 


  • Compelling and persuasive communicator (oral and written) with excellent interpersonal and influencing skills. Strong executive communicator with the ability to create and communicate complex business cases in a simple and effective manner 


  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients. Ability to influence peers and management in a matrix organization, across BU & geographies 


  • Solid understanding of procurement/sourcing/category management methodology and able to drive value for customers leveraging fit-for-purpose sourcing levers 


  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting. 


  • Periodic travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required. 


  • High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications; Advanced Microsoft Excel and database manipulation skills, SAP BI tools, SAP & Ariba Sourcing & Buying tools 



  • Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard; and talk, hear and see.   


  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  


  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low/moderate.
