POSITION SUMMARY

The Payroll Intern provides administrative support to the payroll team and assists with special projects to support continuous improvement initiatives. This internship provides an opportunity to learn about payroll fundamentals and various functions including HR and finance. Gain knowledge of and interact with payroll, HR and finance individuals and other business professionals throughout the internship. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains payroll records, reports, and employee files in an organized manner to facilitate audits and complies with record retention standards by filing and scanning of documents. 

  • Manages data gathering for payroll audits.  

  • Retains payroll workflows and important documents on the Payroll SharePoint page. 

  • Assists in managing responses to tier two payroll questions from employees via the HR ticketing system, which may be responded to by phone, e-mail, and the ticket portal. 

  • Provides customer service to employees and managers who have questions or data inquiries. 


 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with the reconciliation of time and attendance, pay issues, data input errors and benefit deduction adjustments.  

  • Provides data to third party agencies including Unemployment, State and County Courts, and Federal and State Tax agencies.  

  • Assists the Lead Payroll Specialist with any data input updates, including updating tax rates as needed. 

  • Sorts and distributes department mail timely and accurately. 

  • Additional duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications 

  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills  

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning) 

  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts 

  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as internal and external clients

  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment. 

  • Ability to work with and influence peers and senior management 

  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting 

  • Ability to work overtime as necessary 

PHYSICAL ASPECTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; and talk, hear and see.   

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
