Senior Manager, Environmental Health & Safety Systems

We are currently seeking a Senior Manager, Global Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Systems to support the deployment, execution and sustainment of a global, cross-segment EHS program across Matthews International to achieve world-class performance.  Our EHS Systems leader will ensure the programs and systems are in place, are effective and are kept current and in line with the ever-changing regulatory and business environment.  This role will work to continuously improve and drive the maturity of multiple site safety plans, assuring the highest possible degree of safety for employees and compliance for the company.



  • Developing, implementing and maintaining EHS policies, procedures, and programs to successfully mitigate risks at the site, business unit, and segment level?
  • Directing all aspects of training programs on EHS framework and tools?
  • Participating on a Global EHS Steering Committee and that is responsible for guiding the implementation of the Health & Safety strategy and strategic objectives.
  • Planning, directing and coordinating the activities of employee(s) to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished.

  • Utilize a Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) model for continuous improvement?
  • Develop and execute communication solutions to enable efficient, accurate and comprehensive global reporting and information exchange, including incident reporting and BOLOs?
  • Ensure safety compliance while improving operational results?
  • Support management system implementation and compliance as needed (i.e., OHSAS 18000, OSHA VPPA, etc.)?
  • Lead accident investigations and associated root cause analysis as needed?


  • You monitor, analyze and evaluate metrics that measure the effectiveness of EHS Strategy implementation and overall compliance while providing updates to the leadership team and determining the best path forward.
  • You audit the effectiveness of the programs by performing measurements, safety evaluations and hazardous waste evaluations with corrective action follow-through, while owning and executing the audit calendar.
  • You analyze and evaluate metrics that measure the effectiveness of EH&S Strategy Implementation and overall compliance while providing updates to leadership and determining the best path forward.
  • You ensure program compliance with internal EH&S policies and applicable regulations while owning and executing the compliance calendar.
  • You lead management system implementation and/or compliance (e.g., OHSAS 18000, OSHA VPPA, etc.).
  • You implement technical programs associated with facility risk factors and asset base, including risk mitigation and business continuity strategies. 


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) preferred.
  • 8 years of progressive Health and Safety leadership experience in manufacturing; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years in an operations leadership role (direct or indirect).
  • Regular travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required.
  • A high degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook and Internet applications.
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), and planning skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, and reasoning).
  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
