Sr. Manager - Software Engineering

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sr Mgr – Software Engineering oversees and manages all aspects of software engineering resources to ensure affective utilization, quality, safety and security while executing internal and customer projects.  
 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Direct project engineering resources.
• Manage execution of customer or internal projects.
• Provide emerging and competitive tools, equipment and processes.
• Cost reduce and enhance existing processes.
• Directs team activities to design new systems, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.
• Resolves problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
• Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost estimates, for customer project requirements.
• Manage resource schedules for effective utilization and value earned.
• Advises management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.
• Maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations and develops recommendations accordingly.
• Utilize engineering skills (engineering design and analysis) to improve operations and project execution.
• Recommend and implement methods for improving processes, including worker efficiency and reducing resource waste, reorganizing workflow.  
• Enforce internal engineering software development/maintenance processes.
• Manage recruiting, hiring, and training of new engineering staff and professional development of existing staff.
• Direct and manage multiple concurrent engineering projects, delegating authority and responsibility to subordinates as appropriate.
• Manage engineering team effectively to project timelines and budgets.
• Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of employee(s) to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished.  Mentors, coaches, trains, and develops team.
• Interact with customers and stakeholders to resolve project issues and escalations.
• Perform duties such as the administration of performance reviews, PTO, expense reports, and labor reporting in accordance with company procedures and policies.
• Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key accountabilities of the job required.
• 8+ years progressive engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years in a leadership role.
• Experience with Software Engineering, SDLC concepts, and one of more of the following technologies (C#, SQL, C, C++, Java, Javascript) is preferred.
• Periodic travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required.
• High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
• Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
• Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
• Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
• Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
