POSITION SUMMARY
The Controls Engineering Intern provides an opportunity to learn how to design controls solutions and the basics of the PLC programming for material handling equipment. Learn equipment requirements, business and customer requirements that drive the design of the technical solutions. Participate in electrical designs, installation support, electrical installation debugging and support of electrical hardware engineering. Must be willing to travel 70+%
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Exposure to PLC programming to support MHE (Material Handling Equipment) using Rockwell Studio 5000
• Learn to interface with customers as well as internal engineering/project management to determine system requirements
• Learn to support electrical installation via interfacing to electrical installers
• Debug electrical installation of controls and motor components and understand electrical principles.
• Understanding of motor control, control devices, VFD operations, and basic Mechanical skills.
• 70+% travel to job sites (local/drivable and by plane). Site location depends on equipment exposure, customers and work assignments
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
• Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program at a four-year college or university in a Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology related field.
• High/Basic degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
• Strong/Basic analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
• Strong/Basic verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
• Solid/Basic understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
• Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
• Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
• Ability to work overtime as necessary.
• Must have current driver’s license.
PHYSICAL ASPECTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk, hear and see.
• Regularly/Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Regularly/Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold & heat, risk of electrical shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
• The noise level in the work environment may be high.
