Sr Design & Product Engineer (Software)

POSITION SUMMARY

This is a senior position of strategic importance to our customers and the company that will require creativity and leadership. The Sr. Design & Software Product Engineer (Embedded) research, design, and develop computer software systems and solutions in conjunction with Product Development team and Product Management. This position uses experience and knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures to design and develop software systems.  This role understands equipment requirements along with business and customer requirements that drive the design of the technical solution.  A senior position that participates in all phases of product development life cycle, including concept and prototype analysis, design, production launch, sustaining production, and end-of-life support.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Designing, developing, coding, testing, and debugging system software. Analyzing and enhancing efficiency, stability, and scalability of system resources.
• Analyzes software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
• Researches, evaluates, and incorporates new software products and solutions to enhance the product development process.
• Plans, schedules, and manages projects and resources of medium complexity and assignments up to six months of duration.
• Performs complex application development and architecture based upon established requirements and capabilities.
• Develops and directs software system testing procedures, programming and documentation.
• Consults with hardware engineers and other engineering staff to evaluate interface between hardware and software, and operational performance requirements of overall system.
• Formulates and designs software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predicts and measure outcome and consequences of design.
• Archives and files software programs.
• Develops support documentation and distributes as appropriate.
• Reviews work of and assists entry level or intermediate level engineers.
• Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering or related field
• Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) preferred
• 5 - 8 years of professional engineering experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Solid technical foundation working with servers and PCs preferred and programming skills in C and C++.
• SQL knowledge including table design and SQL queries.
• Periodic travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required.
• High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
• Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
• Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
• Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
• Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
• Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.

• Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk, hear and see. 
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.   
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
