POSITION SUMMARY

Matthews Marking Systems is seeking a strategic Vice President of Sales and Marketing to evolve our market share of products, solutions and services for industrial product identification with ink-based systems.  The ideal candidate will be passionate about delivering user value and will have demonstrated the ability to grow businesses at above market growth rates by creatively driving sales productivity with direct sales, channel development, strategic account growth and effective inbound and outbound marketing.  This is an ideal opportunity to get into an industrial growth segment and change the way we go to market and evolve B2B sales and marketing in the industrial space.  In addition, Matthews Marking Systems has a solid mix of products, engineered solutions and recurring revenue business from ink and services to drive strong growth.  The right candidate will have an innovation mindset for delivering customer value in new ways by fostering idea sharing, collaboration, creativeness and experimentation. They will encourage teams to “fail safe and fail fast” to reduce our time to market with new offerings.  The right candidate will be able to think big but work within the real constraints of business, market and technological boundaries.  They will also have experience with digital products and IIoT, software, hardware and embedded software and the value that can be delivered by evolving the solutions capabilities to the customer. The leader will also have a strong commercial background and be able to work closely with sales, customers and partners. This candidate will use data driven and sound judgement in defining and executing the portfolio as well as identifying new market opportunities.  Finally, the ideal candidate will have a proven ability to execute and drive continual improvement in the products, processes and people in the organization. 


The purview of this role includes the promotion, lead generation, account management of the entire portfolio of marking system products.  This role will lead the analysis, definition and business cases for new market entry and growth as well as developing alternate channels and leverage digital sales to drive sales growth and productivity.  They will also support new products and product enhancements, collaborate on pricing, and develop commercial programs.  This role is ultimately responsible for driving the growth as efficiently as possible while expanding our markets and distribution partners. This role also has the responsibility of maximizing the recurring revenue associated with initial deployments through ink sales, services and other possible “as a service” models.

As VP of sales and marketing, you will report to the Senior Vice President and General Manager as a key member of the leadership group with an independent team to ensure cross-functional alignment. You will have the authority to build your team, establish your charter, and evolve our current approaches to executing product portfolio and development.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • 10+ years progressive industrial product and solutions selling
  • Experience in direct and key account selling, distribution and industrial OEM partners
  • Proven ability to leverage inbound and outbound selling to develop funnels supportive of 1.5 to 2X market growth
  • Experience in industrial B2B customers, markets and behaviors
  • International experience
  • 5+ years in a leadership role
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline, advanced degree desirable
  • Experience in market research and insights.  Highly desirable if you have experience in industries such as wood, food, packaging, cpg and other industrial automation areas where product identification and marking is critical
  • Experience with outcome based selling and effective B2B marketing
  • Proven ability to develop individuals, a team and foster a positive work environment
  • Proof points of product development that yielded above market growth
  • Strong knowledge of pragmatic marketing framework or equivalent, especially the go to market, customer facing skills
  • Strong desire to play a key leadership role in communicating and owning program success
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel including international
  • An attitude that fosters cooperation across diverse functional and geographical teams
