At Matthews Industrial Automation, we are currently seeking a talented Senior Design & Product Engineer (Electronic) in Wilsonville, OR. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting.


The Senior Design & Product Engineer (Electronic) performs engineering services as required for the development of special, custom, and standard equipment and products, working closely with engineering, marketing and manufacturing to meet customer specifications and requirements. 




• Participating in all phases of product development lifecycles

• Designing and developing concepts & plans for projects

• Custom machine applications, to include cost estimates



• Clients, both external and internal

• Peers and colleagues across the globe

• Cross functional teams, including sales, distribution, etc.



• Designing and developing circuits for products based on requirements and specifications, study of end customer requirements, and research of available testing, manufacturing, and assembly methods and materials

• Making CAD and hand sketches for formal documentation. Making complete CAD drawings as required.

• Locating, conducting evaluations and reports on new equipment ideas and technologies for use in Matthews products.    

• Producing technical specifications, instruction manuals & bill of material for custom machines, projects & tests.              

• Selecting, evaluating and specifies necessary hardware, mechanical; electrical & electronic components required in development of custom and standard equipment and product.

• Supporting and participating in quality programs.

• Reviewing and checking work in compliance with Engineering Standards.

• Participating in design reviews and scheduled department meetings.

• Providing input to improve Engineering operation and efficiency.

• Participating in trainings, independent study, etc. to maintain ongoing enhancement of skills, component, product, and standards knowledge.

• Additional duties as assigned.



• You will provide technical and start-up support and information to customers, engineers, sales & manufacturing as required

• You will perform Engineering calculations and analysis; initiates, reviews & completes engineering change notices

• You will plan schedule of work to support timely completion.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) preferred
  • 6+ years progressive electrical engineering design experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Periodic travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required.
  • Schematic capture (Altium Designer experience preferred)
  • Printed circuit board design and/or design guidance. (Altium Designer experience preferred)
  • Microcontrollers (8051 and ARM Cortex-M experience preferred)
  • Programming/scripting experience (C and/or process logic control (PLC) experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of networking (Ethernet, CAN, USB in automotive and/or industrial applications preferred).
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
