POSITION SUMMARY

The Software Engineer is responsible for assisting in the design and maintenance of PLC and HMI software for combustion equipment, i.e. cremators and incinerators.  This role understands equipment, business and customer requirements that drive the design of the technical solutions. This position participates in the analysis, design, installation support, systems/software installation debugging, and support of other complimentary engineering staff associated with software engineering. Supports resolution of site requirement changes, and support solutions to complete designed equipment installation.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Supports project level technical management functions including the following but not limited to the below: 

  • System functional definition.
  • Updating and adapting PLC and HMI software to individual customer and regulatory needs.
  • Responsible for implementing documentation updates and changes to existing applications
  • Assisting in defining test scenarios, network and other customer requirements. 
  • Support electrical installation via interfacing with electrical installers.
  • Debugs electrical installation of controls and components.
  • Coordinating with overall project management (manager). 
  • Coordinating with software engineering group to ensure proper system performance occurs.
  • Anything else needed to ensure proper and successful project execution.
  • Assists with internal efforts to develop standard PLC software modules.  
  • Participates with department manager to ensure department goals are being met.
  • Additional duties as assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field from ABET accredited institution.  
  • 3+ years previous engineering experience preferred.
  • Occasional travel either locally, nationally, and/or internationally may be required. 
  • High degree of proficiency in TIA Portal, or similar software.
  • Has expert proficiency in implementing/troubleshooting PLCs, HMI, motion control, servo systems, and industrial sensors.
  • Has experience with industrial networks.
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications. 
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning). 
  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, including, internal and external clients. 
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment. 
  • Ability to work with and influence peers and management. 
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.

  • Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; talk, hear and see.   
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold & heat, risk of electrical shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
