POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Matthews International, a dynamic world-class organization in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is seeking an experienced Vice President of Distribution to join their strong leadership team. Their primary responsibility will be to lead and set the strategy of the organization's distribution policies, objectives, and initiatives for their approximately 5 hubs, 90+ distribution centers, over 500+ employees and approximately 400 vehicles. They will oversee the organization on a day to day basis to provide strong service to our customers, while caring for the warehousing, distribution, and transportation functions. The Distribution Executive will be responsible for redesigning the current distribution network to improve efficiencies and to reduce the distribution cost per product delivered while also leading a team of 5 direct reports.

  • Activities of employees to ensure goals or objectives are accomplished. 

 

DO YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH?

 

  • Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Choosing the proper distribution center locations and size where market penetration is expected in both the short term and long term with flexibility built into leases. 
  • Overseeing that vehicles are of a proper mix of size and capability to serve the market efficiently.
  • Establishing, Implementing, and Maintaining a Health & Safety Program reduce workers compensation claims and expense.

 

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:

 

  • Creating a thriving distribution organization 365 days a year while operating the most cost-efficient distribution network. 
  • Ensuring the Division provides the highest-level customer service.
  • Designing and grooming the distribution network which includes continuous improvement in the following areas: Training, Quality, Damage Control of Inventory, Improvement of Inventory turns, and overall presentation of vehicles and drivers.
  • Establish, Implement, and Maintain a Health & Safety Program to reduce workers compensation claims and expense.

 

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business or related field.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) preferred.
  • 10+ years progressive distribution experience.
  • 8+ years in a leadership role.
  • Strong organization and prioritizing skills.
  • Ability to travel 40%-50% in support of the position.
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications.
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
  • Strong history of financial and customer service success. Record of successfully introducing and implementing strategic initiatives. Strong working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. 
  • Demonstrated performance in exceeding Corporate outlined financial goals.
  • Budgeting and forecasting experience required.
