POSITION SUMMARY
The Truck Driver – Semi drives gasoline or diesel-powered tractor-trailer combination, locally delivers products, or parts and materials in liquid, loose, or packaged form. Applies knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering vehicle in difficult situations, such as narrow passageways. Requires a commercial driver's license.
This position has a starting hourly pay rate of $21 - 25 hourly (based on experience).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition.
• Keeps driver log maintained according to ICC regulations.
• May assist workers in loading and unloading truck.
• May drive tractor with trailer and moffett (truck mounted forklift).
• May work as member of two-person team driving tractor with sleeper bunk behind cab.
• May assist with material handling using forklift
• Additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• 2+ years of previous experience driving a semi-truck; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Requires a commercial driver's license.
• Completion of a training course at an accredited truck driving school preferred.
• Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
• Ability to work overtime as necessary.
• Must have current driver’s license.
PHYSICAL ASPECTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; and talk, hear and see.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• May be exposed to very hot or very cold temperatures while working outside.
• Often exposed to contaminants, such as diesel fuel or exhaust.
• Occasionally exposed to bright or dim lighting conditions.
• Occasionally exposed to whole body vibration when driving a truck.
• Sometimes exposed to sounds or noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
