Senior Software Engineer

Schawk USA Inc. seeks a Senior Software Engineer in Des Plaines, IL. Job duties include: (i) supporting project level technical management functions, including system functional definition, server program development/deployment and schedule management through to completion; (ii) coordinating with software engineering group and overall project management to insure proper system performance;  (iii) designing, developing, modifying, debugging and maintaining software code according to functional, non-functional, and technical design specifications;  (iv) Mentoring and directing the efforts of junior software engineers from both a technical and interpersonal perspective; (v) collaborating with Solutions Architects and Senior Application Analysts in order to ensure business requirements and department goals are met; (vi) leading the development, design and implementation of new features for exiting system applications via web based technologies for user interface using frameworks & libraries (including React.js, GraphQL, Ajax, and jQuery), HTML, CSS and JavaScript (or TypeScript); (vii) participating with UX Designers in the development of consumer-friendly user interfaces; (viii) drafting technical documents based on research findings and implementation details in order to ensure clear guidance for engineers, architects and analysts; (ix) designing and developing robust, scalable, and performant enterprise-grade server side micro-services using Node.js, Python and Java; (x) defining and collaborating on critical technology decisions; (xi) driving the end-to-end development effort for on time, high quality, highly scalable software offerings and enhancements including the development of backend Database design using, both SQL (Oracle/Microsoft) and NoSQL (Mongo/Elastic); (xii) designing and developing software systems using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design; (xiii) consulting with engineering staff to evaluate interface between hardware and software, developing specifications and performance requirements and resolving customer problems; (xiv) driving technical innovation by researching and incorporating new technologies and tools into Schawk’s core system; (xv) modifying existing software to correct errors, adapting to new business problems and upgrading interfaces to improve performance; (xvi) managing code and test frameworks from development through to deployment, support and maintenance; (xvii) overseeing the resolution of technical issues and collaborating with offshore development and support groups to resolve more advanced issues; (xviii) directing software programming, developing documentation and configuration of our Enterprise Integrations Services using SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (PI), Process Orchestration (PO), SAP Business Process Management (BPM), XML/JSON, XSLT, and REST/ RESTful based paradigms; (xix) Consulting with customers or other departments on project status, proposals, or technical issues such as software system design or maintenance; and (xx) analyzing information to determine, recommend, and plan the deployment of a new system and modification of an existing system.  


Must have a bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Technology or Software Engineering and two (2) years of experience in a software development role.  

Two years of experience must include (can be concurrent): (i) development of full stack/polyglot software; (ii) design server-side micro-services using Node.js, Python and Java programing languages; (iii) configuring of Enterprise Integration Services using SAP NetWeaver Process Integration (PI), Process Orchestration (PO), SAP Business Process Management (BPM), XML/JSON, XSLT, and REST/ RESTful based API design; (iv) designing web based user interface with frameworks & libraries (including React.js, GraphQL, Ajax, and jQuery), HTML, CSS and JavaScript (or TypeScript); and (v) developing databases with SQL (Oracle/Microsoft) and NoSQL (Mongo/Elastic).

Must know (from any completed university-level coursework, trade school, seminars, workshops, or real-world, hands-on experience): (i) application development using Node.js, Python and Java; (ii) container orchestration using docker swarm or Kubernetes; (iii) Linux Operating system; and (iv) Source Code Version control (GitHub/Gitlab).
