POSITION SUMMARY
Working in the colour laboratory, you will use your colour matching skills to produce colour standards for a variety brands using the main printing processes; offset, flexographic, gravure and screen. You will be required to write reports to document the details of each colour standard created.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Colour matching skills (visual and software based)
· Report writing
· Liaise with internal and external clients via meetings, telephone and email
· Quality Control of post print samples
· Presentation of colour standards using standard pattern mounting techniques
· Stock control and purchasing
· Follow Health and Safety and COSHH regulations and setting a good example to others
· Packing and despatch of colour standards
· Maintaining good housekeeping practices
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
Either: A graduate with experience printing/ink/colour experience that includes a basic knowledge of colour chemistry or extensive experience in a related industry.
· Excellent colour vision
· Knowledge of inks, printing processes and their associated print packaging types
· Working in a team environment
· Report writing
· Record keeping
· Experience of training others (not essential)
Or: A desire to work in a laboratory type environment.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, or members of the business community and effectively present information to customers.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as colour measurement and be numerically aware.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form. Ability to adapt to new situations and provide solutions
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet and Word Processing software. Good understanding of colour matching software together with a sound knowledge of optical instrumentation.
Desired but not essential
Membership to affiliated associations such as; Institute of Printing, Oil and Colour Chemist’s Association, Institute of Materials.
Other Skills and Abilities
Able to work unsupervised on occasion.
Some light lifting is required
Driving license is required
