POSITION SUMMARY

 

Senior Production Designer / Producer - Los Angeles, CA

This will be a hybrid role combining the technical aptitude of a working Senior Production Designer with the Production facing knowledge of print/finishing as a Producer.  You will be client-facing and should be local to Los Angeles, CA., as the work will require onsite visits to client headquarters for project discussions, proof review, and travel for production approvals. Based on client directives you will help recommend how to get to the intended result, translating client asks into action items for the broader team. This role will require a solid working knowledge of publication printing, packaging, and ad layout.    

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

20% Represent SGK onsite at client facility in Los Angeles

Attend kickoff and milestone meetings.

Review proofs, record client feedback, make suggestions and define best way forward around obstacles or concerns.

Determine pass/fail of output against a target

Attend press checks in person or remote depending on production location, all other support will be remote.

 

20% Shape mechanicals with a strong background in prep for print / finishing

Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, high end retail retouching (Photoshop), packaging mechanicals (Illustrator), and publications and ads (InDesign).

Working knowledge of print industry terminology including imposition, trapping, preflight, lpi, dpi, ppi, resolution.

Comfortable working in multiple color spaces including, RGB, CMYK, Lab.

Strong, comprehensive knowledge of control colors including build and use within Photoshop.

Able to interpret technical drawings and building of dielines.

Knowledgeable on strengths and limits of pixel vs. vector artwork, including when each is preferred.

 

40% Able to delegate to support team

Work closely with account executives to schedule and monitor all projects.

Support QC of internal team deliverables as well as your own.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

5+ years in a leadership role

8+ years progressive production design experience

Work closely with account executives to schedule and monitor all projects.

Meet onsite with the client for meetings, file/proof review, at press proof locations with client and account team for approvals, remote otherwise.

Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).

Carefully and accurately perform quality assurance on your work as well as the work of graphic designers that report immediately to you.

Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts

Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  

Regularly/Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
